NASPCI, BRIN, and SAIAC Collaborate to Discuss Space and Satellite Issues

The National Air and Space Power Center Indonesia (NASPCI) has teamed up with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and S. ASEAN International Advocacy & Consultancy (SAIAC) to bring together experts, diplomats, and industry professionals to discuss issues related to space and satellites.

Chairman of NASPCI Air Marshal TNI Penny Rajendra highlighted the importance of discussions, debates, and meetings regarding space and satellite issues, emphasizing that it is crucial for all parties to ensure that space remains a safe and beneficial place for everyone.

The Diplomatic Workshop event, held at the NASPCI Building in the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base Complex in Jakarta, aimed not only to raise awareness of the importance of space for domestic communities but also to stimulate dialogue and collaboration with international partners on the use of space technology and satellites.

Penny emphasized several issues that need collective attention, including space security, various space threats such as space debris, and the use of satellites for both military and non-military purposes. He pointed out that the lack of clear and comprehensive policies governing the management of satellites or other space objects is a current concern, as these devices could pose a threat to Earth’s sustainability.

Therefore, Penny stressed the need for a mutual agreement to regulate satellites launched into space to ensure they do not endanger Earth and life on it. He also highlighted the importance of space situational awareness.

At the event, Mario Ignacio Artaza, the Ambassador of Chile to Indonesia, echoed the importance of regular collaboration and meetings to discuss space governance. For developing nations like Chile and Indonesia, issues related to space that require attention include equal access to space exploration and resource utilization, space sustainability, and the connection between space and each country’s national defense and security.

Representatives from various foreign countries, industry players like Lockheed Martin Indonesia, Airbus Indonesia Nusantara, Rolls Royce, and experts from institutions such as the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), as well as officials from government agencies and the military, also participated in the event.

The gathering provided an opportunity for fruitful discussions and potential collaborations on space-related issues, reinforcing the importance of international cooperation in ensuring the peaceful and sustainable use of space resources.
