President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed his dedication to reforming Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs) by putting an end to the practice of awarding bonuses, or tantiem, to SOE commissioners. Speaking at the Apkasi Otonomi Expo 2025 in Tangerang, Prabowo highlighted the mismanagement and dispersion of SOE assets over the years. Through the consolidation of these assets under Danantara, Indonesia has emerged as a formidable player in global finance, boasting the world’s fifth-largest sovereign fund, trailing only Norway, China, and Abu Dhabi. However, Prabowo condemned the culture of granting bonuses to SOE commissioners even in times of financial losses, deeming it inherently unjust. He emphasized the necessity of eliminating these bonuses as part of a wider reform initiative to nurture integrity and professionalism within state-owned enterprises. Prabowo made it explicit that those who resist these reforms will not be tolerated, as there are numerous young individuals ready to step up to the challenge.
