President Prabowo Subianto recently disclosed that he had engaged in direct discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump regarding trade tariffs, characterizing the negotiations as challenging but ultimately fruitful. The conversation took place at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta, where Prabowo expressed gratitude for reaching an agreement after tough talks. Both leaders displayed a mutual understanding of their respective national interests during the negotiations. As a result, the United States agreed to reduce import tariffs on Indonesian goods from 32% to 19%. Prabowo highlighted the painstaking process undertaken by the Indonesian government to safeguard the welfare of the public and local labor force. He emphasized the importance of protecting domestic workers and remaining steadfast in the negotiations. Despite global uncertainties, Prabowo remains confident in Indonesia’s economic resilience and is optimistic about the country’s economic strength. Plans for a potential visit to the United States are in the works, with a likely meeting with President Trump scheduled for later this year. Prabowo humorously mentioned the possibility of a round of golf with Trump during their meeting.
