Prabowo Welcomes Macron at the Palace: A Patriotic Meeting

More than 70 years have passed since Indonesia and France first established diplomatic relations in 1947. Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron was welcomed in Jakarta with a grand state reception, highlighting the strong ties of friendship and mutual respect between the two countries. The grounds of Merdeka Palace and the area surrounding the National Monument (Monas) were filled with around 3,000 students from elementary to high school levels, dressed in uniform and waving the flags of Indonesia and France. The motorcade carrying President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron proceeded from Monas to the palace, accompanied by tight security measures, enhancing the ceremonial ambiance.

Upon arrival at Merdeka Palace, President Macron warmly greeted the students and was received by President Prabowo Subianto in an official welcome ceremony. Together, the two leaders walked to the ceremonial grounds while the national anthems of both countries played, followed by a 21-gun salute as a formal gesture of respect. Subsequently, Prabowo and Macron inspected the honor guard under the clear blue skies of Jakarta, with Macron appreciating the enthusiastic students cheering and waving flags in the palace courtyard.

In attendance at the ceremony were ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, as well as Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo. Macron’s itinerary in Indonesia also included a visit to the Military Academy in Magelang and exploring the UNESCO World Heritage site, Borobudur Temple, showcasing the shared cultural and educational values of Indonesia and France. Following the welcoming ceremony, the two leaders engaged in a closed-door bilateral meeting to discuss various strategic partnerships, signaling a deeper collaboration between the two nations.
