The Indonesian Institute (TII) has stated that collaboration is the key to successful data collection of disabled voters in the 2024 General Election.

In a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday, TII researcher Christina Clarissa Intania made the statement in response to the increase in the number of disabled voters in the 2024 General Election compared to previous elections.

According to data from the General Election Commission (KPU), the number of disabled voters in the 2024 General Election is recorded at 1,101,178 people, while there were 375,195 disabled voters in the 2019 General Election.

It is also stated that the increase in the number of disabled voters needs to be appreciated.

Meanwhile, based on TII’s mid-year study, Christina mentioned that the key to increasing the number of disabled voters is the result of collaboration between the KPU, the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), local governments, and civil society organizations.

Population data from the Population and Civil Registration Office and data on people with disabilities from the Social Affairs Office in each region, she said, are the main sources of data.

“With data from civil society organizations working for people with disabilities, then matching and researching data through visits conducted by the KPU overseen by Bawaslu complete these data,” she said.

In a study entitled “Implementation of Data Collection of Voters with Disabilities in the 2024 General Election,” Christina revealed that the reporting methods from the community and local governments to report the lack of disabled voters, who have not been registered, are also key.

According to her, methods such as setting up communication posts, direct reporting to the local government, and reporting through the official KPU website are good practices in completing the lack of data on disabled voters.

It is revealed that these data collection methods need to be continued, and even developed to be more creative and accessible for disabled voters.
